Barnardo’s Axis Lanarkshire
Axis Lanarkshire provides support, coordination and advocacy to young people aged 14 –21 (26 years if previously looked after and accommodated), who have been affected by their own or someone else’s substance misuse.
Working from a Children’s services perspective, Axis takes a holistic approach in building resilience and ensuring young people are given opportunity to grow and develop.
Young people are offered a range of interventions, with each Action plan tailored to suit individual needs such as:
- Advocacy and coordination
- Group work programme
- 1:1 outreach support
- Harm reduction techniques
- Motivational Interviewing
- Linkage with community groups

Where appropriate the service can provide family interventions through the following:
- Facilitating family activities
- Encouraging improved communications within the family unit

- Utilising programmes such as Strengthening Families and Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach (ACRA)
