The Thistle - Safer drug consumption facility
Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP), NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) and other partners have worked to develop the first Safer Drug Consumption Facility (SDCF) in Scotland and the United Kingdom.
The Thistle is a supervised healthcare setting where people can inject drugs obtained elsewhere in the presence of trained health and social care professionals in clean, hygienic environments. The service aims to reduce the negative impact that injecting outdoors has on local residents, communities and businesses, reduce the harms associated with injecting drugs and support people to access help to improve their lives.
The Thistle is located at 55 Hunter Street, Glasgow, G4 0UP and is open 9am to 9pm, 365 days of the year.
Hunter Street is home to other treatment services, including the Enhanced Drug Treatment Service. As there are multiple services available within Hunter Street, entering the building will not necessarily identify anyone as a SDCF service user.
