NHS Fife Pain Management Service
Pain management aims to actively involve the patient in learning to self manage their pain and to manage the effect it has on their quality of life. Treatment is patient centred and multidisciplinary.
The care pathway may involve working with skilled professionals from Consultants, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Occupational Therapy and Pharmacy. It may include 1:1 therapies and/or group programmes. More importantly, it will help patients have a better understanding of pain and some of the non-medication factors which can help to improve quality of life.
The first assessment appointment helps patients to set realistic goals and expectations and prepares them for working with the other professionals within the service. The prime aim of work within the team is to support patients towards a better quality of life in the presence of pain.
Referral is provided via NHS healthcare professionals.
