Garadh a Bhagh a Tuath (Northbay Garden) [SCIO]

Garadh a Bhagh a Tuath (Northbay Garden) is known locally as the “Garadh” and has grown from a small service, into a vibrant social enterprise, achieving Scottish Incorporated Charitable Organisation [SCIO] status in 2011.

The principal purpose and aim of the Garadh is to advance the care, support and training needs of adults, resident on the islands of Barra and Vatersay with physical or learning disabilities, mental health problems or substance misuse problems. We achieve this by providing a space for all members of our community to volunteer regardless of assessed need or physical ability. Our organisation also works with visiting adults with assessed care needs from surrounding islands and mainland UK.

The organisation delivers its activities through volunteering from the Garadh, a therapeutic garden site in Northbay which includes a new building housing a cafe and daycare facility. Volunteers, including those with assessed needs, are fully involved in activities in both the garden and cafe.

There is also a Changing Places toilet on site, so that visitors using a wheelchair can be easily assisted with bathing and toileting activities.

Electric vehicle chargers are on site for the convenience of visitors.
