Cothrom Ltd
Cothrom Ltd is a Community Learning and Development organisation, based at Ormiclate on the island of South Uist. It serves a population of approx. 6,000, in a 100 mile island chain from Berneray to Barra (with a small satellite learning centre on Barra). Set up initially in 1992 to support women returners to work, Cothrom has grown into an established SQA accredited training provider, with a diverse portfolio of opportunities for adult learning and skills training.
Through this we recognised that some adult learners, coping with additional challenges, thrived better outwith the traditional classroom setting and we established ReStore as a small social enterprise, where learners could gain core skills through practical furniture / textile recycling and reuse and delivery of other services to the community.
Childcare has been at the cornerstone of Cothrom’s work since its setup as it is essential that parents are able to access a good quality local nursery provision delivered through the medium of Gaidhlig so our purpose-built learning centre includes a wraparound nursery, Cothrom Òg.
