Family Based Care-Inverclyde (Adoption)
Adoption means making a lifelong commitment to a child or children to allow them a chance to experience family life in a secure, stable and nurturing home.
It is the legal transfer of all parental responsibilities and rights from the child or children’s birth parents to their adoptive parents. Legally the child or children would have the same legal status in their adoptive family as any child born to adoptive parents.
In Inverclyde Council and throughout Scotland there are children of all ages and backgrounds who need an adoptive family as they can no longer live with their own birth family. Children requiring adoption often need additional help, support and encouragement to help them recover from early life experiences.
All kinds of people can apply to be adoptive parents but you need to be at least 21 years old. We are looking for people who can offer a child or sibling group the level of care, nurturing and understanding they need to help them fulfil their potential. We are interested in what people can offer a child rather than income levels or marital status. You can be single, married, civil partners, divorced, widowed, co habitant and with or without children. All enquiries will be treated in a non discriminatory way.
We know that you will have taken a lot of time to get to this stage, on average people think about fostering or adopting for well over a year before doing anything about it. Please don’t wait any longer as getting started is very easy.
Give us a call on 01475 715 365 or email at adoptions@inverclyde.gov.uk and one of our team will be in touch to arrange an initial discussion – we look forward to hearing from you.
